Join us in celebrating the James River!
Each year, the James River Association hold a number of events to raise funds and awareness in support of our river. However you enjoy celebrating the river, we have an event for you.
Be sure to check out our calendar for a complete list of upcoming events and activities, and see below for more information on our large annual events.
We hope to see you there!
A Taste of the James
Come out to get a taste of great food, including a delicious seafood bar, cocktails, music, a live and silent auction plus lots of children’s activities in Williamsburg.
Interpretive Paddle Series
The James River Association offers interpretive paddles throughout the watershed from May through September. Learn about the river and become inspired to be better stewards of our natural resources!
Westover Lawn Party
This fun-filled day is our primary fundraiser and is held on the banks of the James River in Charles City County each year in June. Hundreds of attendees help us enjoy this annual event with great food and music, live and silent auctions and a variety of children’s activities.
Splash & Dash
The James River Splash & Dash is a fun run and flat water tube. Participants run a trail course, grab a tube, paddle (with their hands) across a stretch of the James, and run their tube to the finish line. After the race, the James River Association hosts an after party that includes a band, food, beer and more! We host two events, one in Richmond and one in Lynchburg each summer.
James River Rundown
The James River Rundown is a 140 mile, 100 mile, and 20 mile paddling races that run straight through the heart of Virginia, on the historic James River. This isn’t a relaxing float to enjoy, competitors will fight through wind, natural obstacles and fatigue to claim victory. Grab your gear and join us for a wild ride! Join us, with your friends and family, for an after event party featuring music, Hardywood Park Craft Brewery beer and food.
The James RiverFest is an annual artisan festival highlighting environmental education at the Eco Discovery Park in Williamsburg. This festival included on the water activities, fun and educational activities for children, food vendors, live music and performers, kayaking, free boat tours, and a wide variety of vendors and environmental booths.
