James River Adventures Brings Canoe and Kayak Trips to Madison Heights
On June 23, 2017 the James River Association will open the doors for its latest project, James River Adventures, an outfitter service operating out of Riveredge Park in Madison Heights.
Open to the public ages 10 and up, participants of all skill levels will have an opportunity to float the James in a canoe or kayak. Trips include a 9-mile paddle that passes Percival’s Island, under bridges and through Amherst and Campbell Counties, or hourly boat rentals that provide an opportunity to paddle by Lynchburg’s skyline. Participants will be given paddling instructions, a safety talk, and opportunities for sighting natural and historical landmarks and wildlife they may encounter.
“Environmental education is at the core of James River Adventures’ mission,” said Rob Campbell, Upper James Community Conservationist for the James River Association. “The James River Association hopes to provide an opportunity for people of all ages to interact with and learn more about nature, and to experience the river’s history, health and future while having fun and enjoying its beauty.”
