Please join us as we celebrate our work to protect and restore America’s Founding River at our Annual Meeting and Oyster Roast on Thursday, October 25th at Main Street Station in Richmond. We will begin the evening with a reception at 6:00 p.m. which will include drinks and hors d’oeuvres, and oysters prepared in a variety of ways. Following the reception, our program will begin at 7:00 p.m. with highlights of our recent work and our guest speaker.
This year we are featuring the book, America’s Favorite Flies. This one-of-a-kind book features stunning photographs of the flies submitted by 224 collaborators throughout North America and the remarkable stories they have written about them. Co-authors of America’s Favorite Flies, John Bryan and Rob Carter will be offering a book signing during the reception and at the conclusion of the program. Bring your own copy of America’s Favorite Flies, or purchase one on site. Fly casting instruction will also be lead by a staff member from Orvis during the reception.
John. N. Maclean, award-winning author and journalist, will be our guest speaker for the evening. John is the son of Norman Maclean, beloved author of A River Runs Through It. The younger Maclean was a reporter, writer and editor for The Chicago Tribune, most of that time as a Washington correspondent. He was one of the “Kissinger 14,” the group of media who regularly traveled with the Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger, during the era of shuttle Diplomacy. After leaving the Tribune nearly 25 years ago, Maclean has written five non-fiction books about wildland fire, considered a staple of fire literature and training, and is at work on a sixth book.
